    CORRECTIONS POLICY

    Alta Journal strives to thoroughly fact-check our journalism, whether that material appears in print, online, or on other platforms such as newsletters and social media channels. Further, each step of our reporting, from sourcing to interviewing to use of third-party information, receives extensive editorial scrutiny. When we become aware of a possible factual error, our editorial team conducts a careful review and, as warranted, makes changes online to the published article. When we publish a correction, we issue a note at the bottom of the article above the author’s bio line. Small changes to address typos, grammatical mistakes, or other minor errors may be made to a published story without notice. However, we do not make meaningful or substantive edits to a published article without acknowledging the change and explaining why we made it. If you see something that you believe to be inaccurate, please send an email to info@altaonline.com.

    BOOK REVIEWS

    Alta aims to be the premier destination for reviews of books about California and the West. Each issue of our print journal includes reviews, excerpts, and author interviews. We also produce the California Book Club, virtual events like Alta Asks Live, and a robust online Books section. We consider titles from all genres. Due to the high volume of correspondence we receive, we regret that we’re unable to reply to each pitch. Galleys sent by mail will not be returned.

    FICTION SUBMISSIONS

    Alta is a writer’s magazine, providing an exciting new home for compelling voices. Our commitment to celebrating the literature of California and the West extends to publishing original short stories distinguished by lively writing that conveys a strong sense of place and narratives that move us. We prefer stories that are 2,500 words or less. Please submit your fiction via Submittable. We read all submissions within 30 days and will contact you if we’re interested in publishing your work. Due to the high volume of correspondence we receive, we regret that we’re unable to reply to each submission. If you do not receive a reply from us within 30 days, please assume that we will not be able to publish your story. Submissions sent by mail will not be returned.

    POETRY SUBMISSIONS

    Alta’s commitment to celebrating the literature of California and the West includes publishing original poetry that conveys a strong sense of place and emotion. We prefer poems that are 30 lines or less. Please submit no more than four poems via Submittable. We read all poetry submissions within 30 days and will contact you if we’re interested in publishing your work. Due to the high volume of correspondence we receive, we regret that we’re unable to reply to each submission. If you do not receive a reply from us within 30 days, please assume that we will not be able to publish your poems. Submissions sent by mail will not be returned.
